Hyundai Canada today has donated more than 152,000 gloves and 100,000 masks to health care workers at the Markham Stouffville Hospital. This essential PPE will be used by medical staff working to treat those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hyundai Canada is a longstanding member of the Markham community, having its head office located in the city for more than 35 years. Since the start of the pandemic, the company has worked closely with the Markham Stouffville Hospital to identify ways to best support their needs during this uncertain time. Hyundai had supplied them with all of the masks it had available locally in March, and is now expanding its efforts to make a larger impact.
The company’s contribution was made in the form of physical PPE in addition to a monetary donation that will be used by the hospital to purchase the equipment directly from its suppliers. More than 17,500 gloves were delivered to the hospital on Monday by Hyundai staff, including the company’s President and CEO, Don Romano.
“While we may be physically apart, we are seeing communities come together more than ever before,” says Don Romano, President and CEO of Hyundai Canada. “Markham has proudly been our home for many years. We’re happy to do whatever we can to support our neighbours, especially the frontline workers who are working tirelessly to keep our community safe.”
“Hyundai’s generous donation to Markham Stouffville Hospital directly reflects the values at the heart of our community. This contribution that puts life-saving equipment into the hands of our frontline health care workers is helping ensure our community receives the critical care it needs in this fight against COVID-19. Thank you, Hyundai Canada, for your support during this challenging time,” says Suzette Strong, CEO of the Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation.
In addition to supporting local communities through corporate and dealership initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic, Hyundai has also made major national contributions to Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada. Hyundai Canada donated $100,000 to the organization’s Emergency Relief Fund and is providing vehicles to Clubs across the country to assist with essential item deliveries.
