MARKHAM, ONT. (October 22, 2025) – Hyundai Auto Canada is proud to announce the recipients of its Environmental Journalism Awards at the 42nd Annual Automobile Journalism Awards, hosted by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC).

Graham Heeps has been named the overall winner for his article titled “The Cold Hard Facts About EVs”, published in AMA Insider. David Chao earned runner-up recognition for his video “Engineer Explains How to Improve Fuel Economy,” featured on his YouTube channel Automotive Press. The awards were presented by Michael Ricciuto, director of Product and Corporate Planning at Hyundai Canada.

The winners were selected by a panel of three independent jurors, who reviewed submissions anonymously to ensure impartiality. This year’s panel included Pam Baker, director of corporate division at MCI Group Canada; Félix Dagenais; media director at Innocean Worldwide Canada; and longtime judge, Paul-André House account director at Tequila Communications et Marketing.

A Data-Driven Approach to EV Awareness

In his award-winning article, Graham Heeps explores a real-world winter test of 13 popular electric vehicle (EV) models in Canada, organized by the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA). Conducted in temperatures ranging from -7°C to -15°C, the test aimed to provide reliable data on how cold weather affects EV battery range and performance—an issue of growing relevance for Canadian drivers.

Jurors praised Heeps for his ability to transform technical data into a compelling narrative that is both informative and accessible. His article not only highlights the challenges of EV ownership in colder climates but also empowers consumers with knowledge to make informed decisions.
