Hyundai Tucson tops category in 2018 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study
• Hyundai Tucson recognized as the best vehicle in the small SUV segment
• Hyundai moved up 3 positions in the rankings from 2017
The Hyundai Tucson received a category award for best small SUV in the 2018 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS). Additionally, the Hyundai brand placed near the very top, slotting into third place following continuous improvement of vehicle quality. IQS, now in its 32nd year, serves as the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality measured at 90 days of ownership.
“Hyundai’s dedication to product quality is a foundational part of our overall strategy. The Initial Quality Study ranking demonstrates our continuous effort to be better,” said Don Romano, President and CEO with Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. “Quality is a priority for customers, and we’re constantly trying to improve the quality and long-term dependability of our products.”
Two Hyundai models ranked high in their segments. In addition to the award for Tucson, the Santa Fe ranked second in the midsize SUV segment. Hyundai’s overall score was 74 problems per 100 vehicles, 19 fewer problems than the industry average and 14 fewer than last year.
Brands under the Hyundai Motor Group umbrella took home the top three spots in the overall IQS rankings, representing the importance of the study to the South Korean automotive group.
The U.S.-based IQS study, now in its 32nd year, serves as the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality measured at 90 days of ownership. The 2018 survey is based on responses from nearly 76,000 purchasers and lessees of new, 2018 model-year vehicles, comprising a 233-question survey designed to provide manufacturers with information to facilitate the identification of problems and drive product improvement.
