The 2016 Hyundai Genesis Coupe: Grab one while you can

2016-genesis-coupe-coverIf you’re someone who enjoys driving a performance car that’s nimble enough to excite even the most jaded driver, then drive one of the 2016 Hyundai Genesis coupes before they are gone.

Discontinuing the Coupe

Hyundai is discontinuing the coupe with the 2016 model, and it’s not because these rear wheel drive performance cars don’t satisfy. They do, but Hyundai wants to focus the Genesis line on the upscale sedans in the future. That means the coupe is being retired after an eight year run in Canada. Hyundai’s Genesis coupe captured everyone’s attention the minute it was unveiled as a concept car in 2007. It’s been compared to the Infiniti G37 and other comparable rear wheel drive cars.

The 2016 Genesis coupe comes in five trim options: 3.8R- Spec-Manual, 3.8 with Premium Package – Manual, 3.8 with Premium Package – Automatic, 3.8GT Manual and 3.8GT Automatic. All models come equipped with a 3.8L DOHC 24-valve V6 that delivers 14.4 L/100km in the city and 9.9 L/100km on the highways with the manual transmission. The automatic transmission gets 14.6 L/100km and 9.6 L/100km respectively. The Genesis has dual continuously variable timing for improved performance from its GDI engine.

Did we mention that it delivers 348 horses?

So many horses, rear wheel drive and responsive handling in an affordable package make the Genesis coupe something to experience.

Made to Move

No matter which model you choose, you’ll notice that the suspension has been built to accommodate the nature of the coupe. The 3.8 R Spec -Manual and the 3.8 GT series have sport calibrated suspension systems.

The manual transmission models have a 6-speed gearbox, while the automatic is an 8-speed electronic with SHIFTRONIC® manual mode and overdrive lock-up torque. The SHIFTRONIC® manual mode lets you take over the shifting of your automatic transmission. It offers you upshift or downshift capabilities that override the automatic transmission. When you brake, your transmission reverts back to its normal automatic mode. The automatic models come with paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

The premium packages come with 18-inch aluminum alloys, and the rest of the models are equipped with 19-inch aluminum alloys. All models have staggered width high-performance all season tires for the ultimate in grip and function.

According to the speed tests from Edmunds, the coupe will do zero to 96.56km (60 mph) in 5.3 seconds, which makes it a competitive V6.

Inside the Cockpit

2016-genesis-coupe-intThe interior features of the coupe include all of the technology you’ve come to expect from Hyundai including a versatile infotainment system, bucket seats that put you in control, power equipment and steering wheel mounted controls.

Depending upon which model you choose, the features may include options like aluminum foot pedals, sport seats, heated front seats, power sunroof, leather wrapped shift knob and steering wheel and a supervisor instrument cluster.

No matter which model you decide upon, once you slide behind the wheel, the bucket seat hugs you into place, and you discover that all the controls are conveniently placed for easy access. All you have to do is sit back and enjoy the ride.

Award Winning

The Insurance Institute Highway Safety (IIHS) gave their seal of approval to the 2016 Genesis by making it a 2016 Top Safety Pick.

In addition to the normal amount of airbags found in most cars, the Genesis coupe is equipped with 4-wheel disc brakes, ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist. It has a 3-stage Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with a Traction Control System (TCS). The 3.8 GT models come with Torsen®-type Limited Slip Differential.

All of these features are designed to keep you connected to the road as you swing through sweeping mountain passes or enjoy a long, smooth stretch of highway.

The Genesis coupe will not be around much longer, so come by for a test-drive today.
